A year ago, the shopping center off County Line Road was quietly losing tenants. Yolk had gone dark at 525 Village Center Drive after two and a half years. Wok n Fire, a sixteen-year anchor at 590, would close by April. If you drove past on a Thursday night in early 2025, the Green was busy, but the storefronts behind it were showing gaps.
That story flipped inside twelve months. Between March and June of this year, three restaurants and a nail bar opened in the same footprint, a coworking space is scheduled for fall, and the free Thursday concert series returned with a nine-week lineup. For residents who already live within a five-minute drive of the center, the practical question is no longer whether to go, but how to schedule around it.
The most concentrated activity is on the block between Starbucks and Olive Tree Mediterranean. Bridewell Tavern Kitchen & Bar took over the old Yolk space and opened for lunch and dinner on March 12. The menu leans into tavern fare with a seed-oil-free kitchen, which is unusual for the format and is the first thing the owners talked about publicly.
Two doors over, in what most residents still think of as the Wok n Fire space at 590, Aria's Kitchen opened in June with breakfast through dinner seven days a week. Owner Bryan Sord applied for a liquor license through the village during spring approvals. Kilwins Burr Ridge opened at 745 Village Center Drive at the end of April, giving the center its first dedicated dessert shop. Coco Nail Bar came online in the same window on the retail side.

The Enclave addition is the one worth watching. A coworking tenant inside a lifestyle center is a bet that the daytime foot traffic can sustain something beyond retail and dining. If it works, the mix at Village Center will look less like a suburban mall and more like a compact downtown.
The four openings are not a coincidence of independent operators. Bridewell shares ownership with Bar Poca Madre, the Mexican restaurant that opened at the center in April 2024. John Mauro and Peter Burdi are the operating partners, and Burdi also runs Nabuki, the sushi restaurant in downtown Hinsdale, along with Pronto Italian Sandwiches. That gives one ownership group four concepts across two western suburbs, and three of them are inside this shopping center.
Kilwins is a franchise, brought in by Nikit Tailor and Mayank Jethva. Aria's Kitchen is Bryan Sord's project. The pattern to notice is the concentration on the Mauro–Burdi side, because it means the tenants have a shared incentive to draw traffic to the block as a whole rather than compete for it plate by plate. That is the difference between a shopping center and a neighborhood the operators are trying to build.
The village has scheduled Concerts on the Green almost every Thursday from June 11 through July 30, on the lawn at 701 Village Center Drive. Sets run from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Arrival begins at 6:00. Seating is bring-your-own, glass containers are prohibited, and the Green closes at 9:30 as a courtesy to the residential units above the center.

There is no concert on July 2, and one rescheduled makeup night is set for Thursday, August 13. The Dan Hampton date is the outlier for anyone who does not follow the local scene. Hampton is the former Bears defensive lineman, and the Chicago 6 is his blues project. The Tossers on July 23 is the Chicago Celtic punk band, which reads as an unexpected booking for a suburban village green and is a reason to actually show up rather than assume you know the lineup.
The practical residency tip is to treat the concerts as a takeout event. The village encourages arrival at 6:00 to grab food from the surrounding restaurants and eat on the lawn. Bridewell, Bar Poca Madre, Pella Signature, The Hampton Social, Cooper's Hawk, Olive Tree, and Topaz Cafe are all inside the ring around the Green. Kilwins is the walk-off dessert on the way back to the car.
The Thursday concerts get most of the marketing, but the shoulder programming is where the center is quietly deepening its calendar. Dancing in the District is running on July 6 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. The Midweek Movie series has The Lion King scheduled for July 8 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on the Green.
Both events sit on Monday and Wednesday nights that used to be dead in the summer schedule. Together with the Thursday concerts, they turn the first two weeks of July into four programmed evenings on the same lawn. That is a meaningful shift for anyone with school-age kids who has been used to driving into Hinsdale or La Grange for weeknight events.
Read the lineup end to end and a thesis emerges. Village Center is no longer functioning as a shopping destination the way it did in the early 2010s. It is functioning as the closest thing Burr Ridge has to a downtown, with a Thursday-night gravitational pull, a food cluster owned in part by one operating group with reasons to cross-promote, a first-time dessert anchor, and a coworking tenant arriving in the fall.
For a village without a traditional Metra-station main street, that matters. The addresses on Village Center Drive are doing the work that Burlington Avenue does for La Grange and First Street does for Hinsdale. The concert lawn at 701 is the town square. The block from 525 to 745 is the restaurant row. And for the first time in a while, the storefronts are filling faster than they are emptying.
If you own a home nearby, the immediate value is not real estate related. It is the twelve-week window between mid-June and Labor Day when you can walk to a free concert, eat dinner without a reservation from four different kitchens, and finish with an ice cream that did not exist in this ZIP code a year ago. Put the Thursday dates on the calendar now. July 23 is the one that will fill up first.
